USB Rechargeable Shower

This is an awesome piece of kit. We had a portable shower that plugs into a 12 volt car cigarette lighter socket, but this is the next step up. Soon to be available on fordandfield.co.uk, we have had a sample to play with. This is a very simple device that rolls up and fits into a small box. There is the shower head (which is detachable, with a small rubber washer), the hose section which is around 2 metres in length, and at the bottom of the hose is the motor. This has a black cable coming off it that attaches to a rechargeable battery pack. The battery pack also has the start/stop control on it. The battery is rechargeable via a provided USB cable.

Washing boots using the shower and a 20 litre collapsible bucket

To use this simply submerge the pump into a water source (bucket of water, stream or whatever water source is closest to you – avoid salt water/ the sea), press the Start button on the battery and hold the shower head over your head for a full shower, or over your feet to wash off sand after a day at the beach, or even in the garden to wash your dog! The unit also comes with a hook and a suction cup, both have mounts for the shower head. This enables you to hang it from a tree branch, stick it to the side of a vehicle or even stick it to your bathroom wall so you can shower in the event of a power cut. Water flow is around 5 litres per minute, so utilising the Ford & Field collapsible 20 litre bucket, you can get almost 4 minutes shower time in one go. One thing to note is that this unit does not heat the water, so do that before you use it!

The shower and accessories.

When it finally hits the store it will cost around the £40 mark, which we feel is good value considering its diverse range of uses. The USB charging element of the product also allows you to charge it for free with any solar charger, in your car as you drive, from a powerbank, or even from devices like the BioLite Campstove 2 (see our separate review on this). So, for Days Out, Camping, Prepping, whatever your hobby, this covers a lot of bases.
