Owing to a slight technology gap between manufacturing date (2001) and today, the poor old TD4 Freelander is missing one or two of things today’s drivers take for granted. The ICE in the TD4 is great – Radio, Multi Changer CD and Cassette player. All you need, you would think. However, most music today is downloadable. As a result, my iPhone contains my music collection. This cool little gadget, acquired at Maplin, made by Ion, is an actual Cassette that pops into the stereo and then connects to my phone via Bluetooth allowing me to play all of my digital music collection. It can also act as a Hands Free phone adapter with a small microphone that pops out the side. It has a built-in battery and charges from a USB cable (included in the box). I have yet to try the hands free phone element as I have another hands free thing in the car already, but this, for about £20, is invaluable. Battery life is good, you get several hours playing time per charge, however I would advise fully charging it before any long trips, as you cannot charge it and use it at the same time.

2021 Update: Unfortunately, Maplin has now vanished from our high street, but they have an online presence (at time of writing). I am sure with a bit of searching you should be able to find this online, as Ion have a large range of other AV equipment. If you have an old vehicle which only has a cassette player, this is invaluable.
